TO OBTAIN A WEAPONS LICENCE IN QLD ONE OR MORE OF THE BELOW FIREARMS SAFETY COURSES MUST BE COMPLETED FOR 10618NAT - Course in Firearms Safety (approved for Firearms Licensing in Queensland) BEFORE APPLYING FOR A FIREARMS LICENCE Anyone in Queensland wishing to own or use a gun, crossbow, paintball gun, and even own certain types of knife, must have a valid weapons’ licence. The most commonly held licence in Queensland is a general ‘Firearms Licence’ which is suitable for the needs of farmers and sports and target shooters.
If you are looking at getting a firearms licence then you will need to complete a 11029NAT which supersede 11029NAT course in Firearms Safety. (Approved by Weapons Licencing in QLD) this course is also recognised in all states and territories when applying for a firearms licence.

1. The course is mandatory
To apply for a Queensland firearms licence, you must complete the 11029NAT Course in Firearms and Weapons Safety.
You need to do the course for the specific category of firearm you’re applying for (e.g. A/B for rifles, H for handguns).
2. Categories covered
Category A & B → rifles/shotguns (most recreational shooters)
Category H → handguns (more regulated)
3. Who can deliver it
The course must be run by a registered training organisation (RTO).
Trainers are licensed to assess multiple categories (A, B, C, D, H, M).
4. You need a USI
Before attending, you must create a Unique Student Identifier (USI) (quick online process).
You’ll need to bring that number to the course.
5. Visa restrictions
If you’re in Australia on: a student visa, or a temporary visitor visa
→ you cannot enrol in this course.
6. Course logistics
Usually available:
Every Weekend
Sometimes evenings or weekends
Group or one-on-one (extra cost).
7. After completion
You get a Statement of Attainment.
This is required for your licence application.
